Iran Urges WHO to Condemn Israeli and U.S. Military Aggression
The Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office in Geneva has formally called on the World Health Organization (WHO) to condemn the recent military attacks by Israel and the United States on Iranian territory and to hold those responsible accountable.
In a letter addressed to WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Ambassador Ali Bahreini described the strikes as illegal and unjustifiable. He requested that WHO issue a strong condemnation and take effective measures to ensure accountability for these violations.
The letter states that the Israeli attacks have damaged seven hospitals and healthcare facilities across various parts of Iran. A total of 627 people, including medical staff and first responders, have been killed, and 4,935 individuals have been injured.
The Iranian envoy also warned of the catastrophic consequences of the deliberate Israeli and U.S. attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, which have endangered the lives of people in Iran and the wider region. He argued that these actions violate the WHO’s Constitution and adopted resolutions.
Previously, Iran’s Minister of Health had also written separately to the WHO, urging it to condemn the unlawful Israeli attacks on the country’s medical centers.
