Press Release on the Occasion of the International Quds Day
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Colombo
More than seventy-six years have passed since the occupation of Palestinian lands, and during these years, the oppressed and innocent people of Palestine have been the target of the attacks of the Zionist regime. With deep regret, the international community witnesses the bitter reality that in all these years, not only has there been no resolution to the issue of occupation and aggressions, but the war machine of the Zionist regime, since October 2023, has devised a new method of uncontrolled and senseless massacre and genocide of the defenseless people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip. Under this horrendous method, the residents of Gaza have no further options: being torn apart by bombs and heinous missiles in their homes, schools, and hospitals, or being succumbed to death from hunger, thirst, lack of medicine, and homelessness. The ramification of these horrible policies is 32 thousand deaths and 18 thousand missing people.
The savage behavior of the Zionist regime in its seventy-six years of occupation narrates the reality that this regime not only shows no remorse for committing war crimes but continues to violate fundamental human rights by carrying out mass punishments. It persists in violating the established fundamental standards of human rights, as seen in actions such as the siege of Gaza, the construction of the barrier, the forcible expulsion and displacement of Palestinians from their ancestral lands, and the establishment of Zionists in these areas, all aiming at the annexation of the entire land of Palestine.
The recent proposal by the Zionist regime regarding the conditions for accepting a ceasefire indicates the insatiable thirst of this regime's cabinet for continuing war, bloodshed, and even continuing its inhumane policies in the post-war era in Gaza. Along this path, there is no regard shown by this regime towards international regulations and UN Security Council resolutions.
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Colombo, recalling the global and international responsibility of all free nations of the world in the efforts to halt the Zionist genocidal machine, and considering the report of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights based in the occupied territories regarding the depth of the crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza and the West Bank, emphasizes that the ugliness of perpetration of genocide in the world must not go unnoticed.
Immediate establishment of a ceasefire and unconditional access for life-saving aid to the homeless people of Gaza, are the minimum expectations from the international community.
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Colombo, while considering the actions of the Zionist regime in occupied Palestine as an obvious violation of international laws and a gross, continuous, and systematic disregard for humanitarian law and the fundamental principles of human rights, emphasizes the following:
- The actions of the Zionist regime in dividing the northern Gaza Strip from the south, enforcing starvation to coerce the forced displacement of residents from the north of Gaza, orchestrating attacks on Rafah, hindering the return of people to their homes in Gaza, and obstructing the access of UN relief agencies to all residents of this area are strongly condemned. The prevention of this tragedy is deemed an urgent duty of the global community and international organizations, notably the United Nations.
- The Islamic Republic of Iran, while warning against the evident genocide of a nation, emphasizes the necessity of taking effective measures to deter the occupying regime of Israel from any further aggressive actions against the defenseless Palestinian people during the holy month of Ramadan.
- The Islamic Republic of Iran, in line with resolving the Palestinian crisis, has presented a democratic and fair plan titled the “National Referendum in Palestine”, which has also been registered at the United Nations Secretariat.
- The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the most effective solution to this conflict is the return of Palestinian refugees to their original and ancestral land, along with the holding of a referendum among the indigenous inhabitants of this land to determine their own destiny as well as desired political system. This initiative would empower Muslims, Jews, and Christian Palestinians alike to determine the type of governing system and benefit from its rights freely and equally.
