Concurrently with the anniversary of the infamous 28 Mordad 1332) August 19, 1953) coup, the US ruling establishment claimed to impose extensive economic and commercial sanctions against the Iranian nation. This action is not only another manifestation of the continuation of 73 years of hostility and enmity by American policymakers toward the people of Iran, but also proof of the anti-human, lawbreaking, and arrogant nature of the US ruling establishment.
Undoubtedly, the US economic sanctions against Iran, which target the fundamental human rights of every Iranian citizen, constitute an instance of "economic terrorism" and a "crimes against humanity." The instigators and perpetrators of these sanctions deserve prosecution and punishment for committing such heinous crimes.
These sanctions—coming in the wake of the recent year-and-a-half-long US-Zionist imposed wars against Iran and their failure to advance their demonic objectives of forcing the Iranian nation to surrender to their illegal and anti-human demands—merely lengthen the dark record of crimes committed by the US against Iran. However, they will undoubtedly not have the slightest effect on the determination of Iranians to safeguard Iran's independence, dignity, and national sovereignty.
Economic sanctions and pressure are the other side of the coin of war and military aggression. America's pathological addiction to both has not only posed a concrete threat to global peace and security, but has also subjected human civilization to an unprecedented moral decay. Accordingly, no government that believes in the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter—including the principle of respect for the national sovereignty of states—can remain indifferent to the continuation of America's blatant law-breaking and confrontation with fundamental international norms.
America’s action in pompously announcing the new sanctions, while amounting to an explicit admission of committing a crime against humanity, is the continuation of a policy that has already been tested and failed and re-testing it will certainly yield no result other than a repetition of past failures and the disgrace of the designers and perpetrators of this policy. Of course, responsibility for its consequences and repercussions will rest with the US government and the designers and executors of this policy.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, while strongly condemning America’s action in intensifying the illegal and anti-human sanctions against the Iranian nation, emphasizes that the Islamic Republic of Iran is steadfast and determined in defending its security and national interests and in confronting America’s military, economic, political, and psychological assaults and pressures. Relying on its unparalleled national capabilities and taking into account the experiences of seven decades of all-out resistance against America’s policy of pressure, intervention, military aggression, and state terrorism against Iran, the Islamic Republic of Iran will utilize all tools and capacities to repel the mischief of the American-Zionist enemy and to safeguard Iran’s national interests.
