Rudaki: The “Father of Persian Poetry.”
December 25 in the Iranian calendar marks the Commemoration of Rudaki. He is known as the “Father of Persian Poetry.”
Ja‘far ibn Muhammad Rudaki (d. 329 AH) was one of the greatest Persian poets of the Samanid era in the 4th century AH. Due to his high status in poetry and his leadership among Persian speakers, as well as his pioneering role in developing many forms of Persian verse, he was honored with the title “Master of Poets.” His most important work, of which only scattered verses remain today, is the poetic version of “Kalila wa Dimna”, which is one of the is one of the most widespread and influential books in the world.
Rudaki also drew inspiration from the Quran and the sayings of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) in his poetry.
