22 April 1979: The Establishment Day of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was established in the early days following the 1979 Islamic Revolution, by order of the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini (RA), with the primary objective of safeguarding the achievements of the Revolution and preserving the country’s security and independence. Over the past decades, this institution has evolved into one of Iran’s key security and defense pillars, playing an important role in various areas of national security, deterrence, and the protection of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
